Former Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw Joins Puerto Verde as Senior Advisor on Safety and Security
EAGLE PASS, TEXAS — Puerto Verde Holdings is proud to announce the appointment of Steve McCraw, highly respected former Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), as its new Senior Advisor on Safety and Security. In this strategic role, McCraw will lead efforts to make Puerto Verde the safest, most secure, and most efficient port of entry on the United States / Mexico border.
With more than four decades of experience in law enforcement, intelligence, and border security, Mr. McCraw brings integrity and operational expertise to the Puerto Verde project. Appointed by Governor Rick Perry and retained by Governor Greg Abbott, McCraw served as Director of Texas DPS from 2009 until 2024, where he led state-wide initiatives on border security, public safety, counterterrorism, and criminal investigations. Prior to the Texas DPS, McCraw spent 21 years with the FBI, serving in numerous leadership positions including Assistant Director of the Office of Intelligence.
Under his leadership, Texas DPS developed some of the most comprehensive state-led border security operations in the country—efforts that aligned closely with the national security priorities advanced during the Trump Administration to protect American communities, support law enforcement, and secure the nation’s sovereignty.
“Steve McCraw has earned the trust of Texas Governors, state lawmakers, and federal partners because he gets results,” said Ruben Garibay, Executive Chairman of Puerto Verde Holdings. “His commitment to public safety, operational excellence, and rule of law is second to none. With Steve on our team, Puerto Verde is not only raising the bar—it’s redefining what a secure and efficient port of entry should be.”
As Senior Advisor, McCraw will oversee the integration of advanced security technologies, law enforcement coordination, and intelligence-based threat mitigation protocols—ensuring that Puerto Verde sets a new national standard in border security. His appointment reinforces Puerto Verde’s commitment to support U.S. policies that prioritize lawful trade and travel, while keeping criminal activity, illegal immigration, and cartel exploitation at bay.
Under McCraw’s leadership and guidance, Puerto Verde aims to support efforts to achieve 100% inspections of all border crossings while decisively eliminating illicit activity and reinforcing U.S. sovereignty.
“I’m honored to join Puerto Verde and support its vision of building a port of entry that is both secure and transformational,” said Mr. McCraw. “Our country needs a modern infrastructure that puts safety first, supports law enforcement, and upholds the sovereignty of the United States. Puerto Verde will do just that.”
Puerto Verde is uniquely positioned to align with the priorities of its Texas leaders and national figures who advocate for strong borders, American jobs, and smart infrastructure. With McCraw’s leadership, the project will reflect the same commitment to safety and national interest that Texans expect and deserve.
